These Factors Make San Antonio the Most Affordable City
July 11, 2019
This year, San Antonio was named the most affordable city with a population greater than 1 million. The Alamo City has no state income tax, no real winter and an amazing selection of food that keeps the population happy and their stomachs full. But just how affordable is the 7th largest U.S. city?
A report by 55places.com detailed several factors including median home prices, cost of living, health care and public transit options, all important to actively employed adults hoping to save a little money. Another increasingly popular factor, especially in larger cities, is nearby attractions and available establishments. Luckily, the Alamo City has no short supply of either. With popular tourist destinations such as Six Flags, Sea World, La Cantera Shopping Mall and The River Walk, at no point will you find yourself in San Antonio without something to do.
“…a home within a certain price point is only half of the equation. The surrounding area — whether or not an active adult community is of interest — plays an integral role in quality of life, and nearby attractions and available establishments can greatly enhance that,” Co-founder of 55places.com Danny Goodman said in a statement. Aspects of affordability and nearby attractions helped make San Antonio the 2019 most affordable city.
In addition, apartment affordability has become increasingly important as the nation continues its shift from home buying to renting. For millennials and active adults looking to rent, apartments are an ideal alternative to renting a home. There is no shortage of reasonably priced apartments with plenty of living space available. A recent KSAT 12 report showcased several apartments throughout the Alamo City that cost less than $600 per month with more than 700 square feet.
Great things are soon to come and having a few extra dollars for the city’s population goes a long way to insure growth. With population and employment rising and the city maintaining affordability, San Antonio is a great place to call home.
